Enhanced understanding of anthracnose resistance in Michigan Dark Red Kidney common bean cultivar

چکیده

Anthracnose, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum lindemuthianum (Sacc. and Magnus) Briosi Cavara, is a major disease affecting common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), potentially causing yield losses of up to 100%. Utilizing resistant cultivars most effective approach for control. This study aimed characterize genetic resistance two cultivars, TU Michigan Dark Red Kidney (MDRK), anthracnose. Inheritance tests were performed on F2:3 families from (R) × AND 277 (S) cross using C. race 3, crosses Kaboon Perry Marrow inoculated with 39. Inoculation three races showed that MDRK carried allele Co-1 locus. However, inoculation 1545 revealed MDRK's this conditioned dominant genes (Co-1 Pv01 another Pv04). Segregation results inheritance cultivar fitted 1RR:2RS:1SS ratio, indicating presence single gene in cultivar. Both Mesoamerican Andean represent valuable sources can be incorporated into breeding programs enhance resistance.

New Insights into the Anthracnose Resistance of Common Bean Landrace

The common bean landrace G 2333 carries a three gene pyramid for anthracnose resistance: Co-4 2 , Co-5 and Co-7. The Co-4 2 gene is well characterized but less information is available on Co-5 and Co-7. The objectives of this study were to determine if a new allele of Co-5 is present in G 2333; to characterize the spectrum of resistance conditioned by the Co-7 gene by deriving lines which only ...

Are duplicated genes responsible for anthracnose resistance in common bean?

The race 65 of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, etiologic agent of anthracnose in common bean, is distributed worldwide, having great importance in breeding programs for anthracnose resistance. Several resistance alleles have been identified promoting resistance to this race. However, the variability that has been detected within race has made it difficult to obtain cultivars with durable resista...

Registration of Great Northern Common Bean Cultivar ‘Coyne’ with Enhanced Disease Resistance to Common Bacterial Blight and Bean Rust

Journal of Plant Registrations, Vol. 3, No. 3, September 2009 219 Great northern common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) ‘Coyne’ (Reg. No. CV-287, PI 655574) was developed by the dry bean breeding program at the University of Nebraska Agricultural Research Division and released in 2008. It is named in honor of Dermot P. Coyne, who was the bean breeder at the University of Nebraska for about 30 Regi...

Linkage mapping of the Phg-1 and Co-1 genes for resistance to angular leaf spot and anthracnose in the common bean cultivar AND 277

The Andean common bean AND 277 has the Co-1 and the Phg-1 alleles that confer resistance to 21 and eight races, respectively, of the anthracnose (ANT) and angular leaf spot (ALS) pathogens. Because of its broad resistance spectrum, Co-1 is one of the main genes used in ANT resistance breeding. Additionally, Phg-1 is used for resistance to ALS. In this study, we elucidate the inheritance of the ...

Dissection of Resistance Genes to Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola in UI3 Common Bean Cultivar

Few quantitative trait loci have been mapped for resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola in common bean. Two F₂ populations were developed from the host differential UI3 cultivar. The objective of this study was to further characterize the resistance to races 1, 5, 7 and 9 of Psp included in UI3. Using a QTL mapping approach, 16 and 11 main-effect QTLs for pod and primary leaf resis...
